The criminal extortion ring DarkSide, specialised in ransomware attacks and mentioned in an earlier newsletter (week 20) regarding the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack in May 2021, has once more attacked an automotive related provider. This time Toshiba, a Japanesegiant providing manufacturing services, was targeted by the DarkSide hacker group. According to Toshiba, only a minimal amount of work related data was lost, but screenshots from DarkSide have shown that more than 740 GB of information was compromised including passports and other personal information. More about DarkSide can be found on, for example, Wikipedia.
