A study conducted by CarGurus (cargurus.com), a large online vehicle marketplace, shows that consumers are ill-informed about automotive security threats. Considering the complexity of car technology this might not be surprising. However, in order to keep their data private, and maintain a high level of safety, they need to at least implement a few basic practices suggested by Madison Gross (https://xconomy.com/boston/2019/09/10/your-car-is-hackable-here-are-three-steps-you-can-take/):

  1. Use strong passwords.
  2. Make sure your data is removed from vehicles you have connected your phones to.
  3. Keep up to date with recalls and updates.
