In the beginning of July the official Formula 1 app was hacked by some mischievous person (or persons), sending a number of push notifications to users.

A short message reading “foo” was first pushed out to the users, which later was followed by another messages reading:“Hmmmm, I should check my security.. :)”

Formula 1 has confirmed that hackers briefly got control of its app, and in a statement Formula 1 said it has no reason to believe user data was compromised during the hack. The statement said:

“Our investigation confirms that this targeted attack was limited to the Push Notifications Service. We will continue to investigate, review and improve safety measures but, at this time, have no reason to believe that any customer data has been accessed during this incident.”

Since March this year, Formula 1’s cyber security services provider is the Herjavec Group.
