Congratulations to Amat Cama and Richard Zhu who hacked the Model 3 Tesla at Pwn2Own conference!  As promised by Tesla when the contest got announced the pair gets to keep the vehicle (with the bug fixed we hope). More than so, they can afford an additional one since they left the contest with another $35 000 in cash.

The vehicle was hacked via its browser. Cama and Zhu exploited a JIT bug in the browser renderer process managing to execute code on the car’s firmware. This allowed them to show a message on the car’s entertainment system.

If you are still not impressed by the achievement described above – the team left the conference with a total of $375,000 in prize money earned by hacking Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, VMware Workstation, and Windows 10.
